Since the 2025 fare reform, ordinary single journeys across Île-de-France use a Metro-Train-RER ticket or a Bus-Tram ticket. Airport rail stations remain a separate fare.
The split at a glance
Crossing the family line costs a second ticket
A Metro-to-RER connection can stay inside the rail ticket rules. A bus-to-tram connection can stay inside the street ticket rules. Move from RER to bus, however, and an occasional single-ticket traveller needs the other ticket family.
The airport is deliberately separate
Entry or exit at the rail stations for Charles de Gaulle and Orly uses the Paris Region Airports ticket, priced at EUR 14 in 2026. Do not load only an ordinary Metro-Train-RER ticket and assume distance simplification includes the airport gate.
Choose a dependable ticket medium
Tickets can be loaded through the Île-de-France Mobilités app or onto a Navigo Easy pass. Direct bank-card validation is still being deployed across parts of the network in 2026, so do not assume every gate already works like London. Buy or load the correct ticket before the journey.
Day-pass maths is a route question
A Navigo Day pass covers unlimited ordinary public transport in its valid area but excludes airport trips. Compare the day's actual journeys, including any bus-to-rail changes, rather than counting only the number of destinations.
