Vatican City has its own Postal and Philatelic Service, with stamps that respond to papal, religious and cultural events. Visitors can use a post office inside the Museums, while a modern office on the left side of St Peter's Square serves pilgrims and visitors outside the museum route.

There are two useful visitor routes
Museum-ticket holders can use the post office beside the Courtyard of the Cuirasses. Visitors around St Peter's Square can use the newer office on the left side of the square without making the postal errand depend on a museum itinerary.
Buy postage for the destination, not the picture
A beautiful stamp may be a collector item or have a face value that does not match the postcard's route. Tell the clerk where the card is going and let the required postage decide the combination.
The postmark can be as interesting as the stamp
Vatican Post issues special cancellations for events, anniversaries and apostolic journeys. A current souvenir envelope may therefore preserve a date and design that will not be available on the next visit.
Pope Leo XIV already has a 2026 postal chapter
The 2026 programme includes stamps for the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV. A first-anniversary commemorative envelope was listed at EUR 3, or EUR 10 with its illustrated folder, showing how postal value and collector presentation create different prices.
Photograph the card before it travels
The charm is that the object leaves your hands. Photograph the finished address, stamp and message before posting, then keep the receipt if the item is registered or especially meaningful.
