San Marino's restaurant rhythm closely resembles the surrounding Italian region. A printed coperto generally pays for the table setting or bread service; servizio is a service charge. Neither should be confused with a voluntary thank-you chosen after the meal.
Three lines, three meanings
Coperto belongs in the meal budget
The cover is charged per diner and may apply even before a full meal is ordered. Look for it on the menu so a family table does not discover the multiplied amount only after dessert.
Servizio closes the percentage question
When a service charge is already printed, do not add another automatic percentage. Leave something extra only for a personal reason, not because the card terminal presents a button.
Round small, reward real care
At a casual restaurant or cafe, rounding the bill or leaving a few coins is enough. A 5-10% gesture suits attentive table service, but San Marino does not require a North American 20% default.
The Tutto card changes food prices at partners
Overnight guests may receive a 10% reduction on the a-la-carte menu at participating restaurants and bars. Apply that benefit before deciding whether to leave an optional tip.
