Visitors can buy a single ticket from the driver with cash, a contactless bank card, a phone or a watch. Day fares are EUR 2 in winter and EUR 2.50 in summer, and the ticket is valid for two hours.
The little paper clock
Summer and winter do not cost the same
The published single day fare is EUR 2.00 in winter and EUR 2.50 in summer. The operator sets seasonal dates, so check the current fare page when your trip falls near a timetable change.
Contactless buys a ticket, not an open tap journey
A bank-card tap at the driver purchases the same two-hour single ticket. Keep the paper proof that the machine issues; this is not a tap-off system and the card alone may not show an inspector what you bought.
Cash needs small, exact euros
Malta Public Transport says passengers paying cash should provide exact change, and EUR 10, EUR 20 and EUR 50 notes may not be accepted. A EUR 2 coin or a small combination of coins is the calmest backup.
A pass should solve a real itinerary
The current visitor range includes a shareable 12-journey card and non-shareable four- and seven-day products. Compare the number of rides you will actually make; a beach day or ferry day can reduce the value of unlimited bus travel.
Proof matters even when the driver sold it
Ticket checks are regular, and the operator publishes a EUR 50 penalty for travelling without valid proof or failing to validate a travel card. Keep each paper ticket flat and readable until its clock has finished.
