From 1 January 2026, a vehicle entering Jūrmala's marked special-regime paid zone needs a EUR 5 entry permit unless a stated exemption applies. The permit belongs to the vehicle registration number entered during purchase.
The beach-city sequence
The fee belongs to the car, not the traveller
Train and bus passengers do not need the vehicle entry permit. The charge applies when a vehicle crosses into the marked special-regime zone, so a rental car makes the plate number the key piece of payment data.
The machine is card-only
Entry-permit machines in Jūrmala accept bank cards and contactless wallets, not cash. Online purchase, Mobilly, Citadele and EuroPark apps, the tourist information centre and the city administration provide other official routes.
One calendar day allows repeated entries
A one-day permit allows unlimited entries until 23:59 on its purchase day. After midnight it remains valid only until that vehicle exits the zone; a new entry belongs to a new payment day.
Electric does not always mean no action elsewhere
Electric vehicles are listed among the vehicles allowed to enter without the permit. Other exemptions may require registration before entry, so read the current official conditions rather than assuming a disability badge or medical visit completes the process automatically.
The rental agreement still matters
Ask how the rental company handles camera notices and administration fees. Keep the permit confirmation and a screenshot showing the plate and date until the rental is fully closed.
