The TFI Leap Card connects Dublin Bus, Go-Ahead city services, Luas, DART and commuter rail. Within Dublin's main zone, eligible transfers can fall inside the TFI 90 Minute Fare and daily capping.
The three-service rhythm
The 90 minutes belong to the card
Eligible journeys across Dublin city bus, Luas, DART and commuter rail can share one adult 90-minute fare when made with the same Leap Card. Buying separate cash tickets does not recreate that account history.
The Visitor Card is time-based
A Leap Visitor Card offers prepaid unlimited travel for its chosen period on participating Dublin services. Compare it with ordinary Leap travel credit and daily capping; the best choice depends on how intensely the itinerary uses transport.
A bank-card tap is not yet the Dublin default
Ireland is building next-generation contactless ticketing, but full bank-card travel across Dublin is not expected until the later rollout. In 2026, use Leap, an operator ticket or the relevant app unless the exact service explicitly advertises contactless bank-card payment.
Keep cards apart at the validator
Take the Leap Card out of the wallet. Presenting it beside a bank card or another travel card can create a card clash or make it unclear which product validated.
A missing touch can become the maximum fare
On Luas and rail, forgetting to touch off prevents the system from knowing the destination and can produce the wrong charge. A valid ticket is also required before travel, with standard fares for non-compliance.
