Slovenia's mountain huts are part of the journey, not merely emergency shelters. Popular high-altitude huts can fill in summer, operating seasons differ and the most convenient payment may happen online while the traveller is still in the valley.

A bed is not guaranteed by the climb
Slovenia's official guidance lists 159 mountain huts and lodges and recommends advance booking for popular stays. Many high huts operate mainly from late spring or summer into autumn, while lower huts may keep a longer season.
Online payment solves only the booked part
The PZS reservation system includes a selection of the most visited huts and can display the final accommodation price for card payment. Meals, drinks, linen or other on-site spending may follow the hut's own procedure, so check the listing and contact the hut when payment matters.
Membership can change the bed price
PZS hut rules allow accommodation discounts for members of the Slovenian Alpine Association and recognized reciprocal organizations. Bring valid proof of membership and identification instead of expecting a logo on an app to settle the question.
Cash is a practical second route
A card used successfully in the valley is not proof that every remote counter will accept it. Carry a sensible reserve in smaller euro notes, separate from the emergency money needed to return to town.
A bivouac is not a free hotel
Official guidance reserves bivouacs for bad-weather shelter or emergency accommodation when a hut cannot be reached. They are not a no-cost substitute for booking a mountain hut.
