One green card, ninety minutes

The Green City Key

Urbana is more than a bus ticket. It starts a ninety-minute travel window, can carry companions and reaches from city buses to the castle funicular.

Ljubljana's contactless Urbana card turns several city services into one small stored-value object. For a visitor, its most useful trick is not the first bus ride but everything that can happen during the next ninety minutes.

The quick answer Buy and top up an Urbana card at an Urbanomat or marked sales point. Validate whenever you board. Transfers within ninety minutes of the first validation are free, and a group can travel on one value card when the driver selects the number of passengers before validation.

One card can carry a small group

To pay for several people from one value card, board at the front and tell the driver how many fares are needed. The driver sets the number on the terminal, then the card is validated once. The group keeps the same transfer window only while travelling together.

The green key opens more than buses

Urbana can also be used for services including the Ljubljana Castle funicular, selected parking and other city systems. Acceptance and products differ, so treat the card as a shared city wallet rather than one unlimited pass.

A bank card is the lighter alternative

Ljubljana buses also accept eligible contactless Visa and Mastercard payments for selected single fares. Urbana remains useful when you want stored credit, group payment or the broader set of city services attached to the card.

Keep each payment method consistent

Tap the same Urbana card or payment device throughout the journey. A phone, watch and physical bank card can represent separate credentials even when they draw from the same account.
