The charge applies across Romania's covered national-road infrastructure, including motorways and national roads. A route that avoids the motorway may still require it. Check the official road rules rather than treating it as a fast-lane sticker.
A rental agreement should answer the first question
Romanian rental vehicles commonly have road-use arrangements already, but the traveller remains wise to ask and retain the answer. Confirm the plate and validity rather than purchasing a second vignette reflexively or assuming that every cross-border rental is covered.
Bridge charges can be separate purchases
A valid rovinieta does not automatically settle every bridge or special crossing tariff. Route-specific charges, including certain Danube crossings, use their own payment rules. Check the planned route before the journey rather than after a camera records it.
The confirmation is the quietest item in the glovebox
Save the email or receipt offline and use the official validity checker when available. The absence of a physical sticker means there is nothing on the windscreen to remind you of the recorded plate, start date or expiry.
