A Polish checkout may show card logos beside a bright BLIK option. They solve the same purchase through different infrastructure. An international card arrives through Visa or Mastercard. BLIK generates a short-lived six-digit code inside a participating bank's authenticated mobile app and asks that app to approve the transaction.
Give each checkout option its real job
BLIK is a feature inside the bank relationship
A BLIK sign does not exclude your card
Polish consumers use BLIK heavily for online purchases, person-to-person transfers, shop payments and cardless ATM withdrawals. A visitor does not need to join that local habit to pay successfully. Formal merchants widely accept ordinary international contactless cards.
One supported app can change the answer
BLIK publishes a current list of participating bank apps, including selected non-traditional providers. Eligibility follows the account, app version and provider terms, not nationality alone. If your own app visibly contains BLIK, follow its instructions; if it does not, a merchant logo cannot create the feature.
PLN is the clean answer to a conversion question
A Polish terminal or ATM may offer a home-currency total. EU rules require the conversion markup to be disclosed, and the customer may refuse it. Paying in złoty often leaves the conversion to the card network and issuer, though your own bank can still add a foreign-transaction fee.
An ATM can add two separate costs
The machine owner may show an access fee before withdrawal while your issuer adds its own cash or foreign-use charge later. Read the confirmation screen, decline unwanted conversion and cancel when the full cost is poor. A larger, less frequent withdrawal may reduce fixed fees but should still fit the trip's security needs.
A contactless phone and its plastic card are separate tools
Some transport, hotel and payment systems remember the exact card token used. A phone wallet can present a different token from the physical card beneath it. Use the same payment object when a later inspection, deposit release or refund may need to identify the original transaction.
