The HSL region uses zones A to E spreading outward from central Helsinki. The Journey Planner tells you which combination your route needs.
Two visitor routes worth memorising
One ticket, several kinds of movement
You may transfer between HSL modes while the ticket is valid. The vehicle changes; the zone coverage does not.
How the contactless ticket works
At the card reader, select the required zones and tap a Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay method. The payment card or device becomes the ticket you show an inspector. Contactless purchase is for adult single fares; use the HSL app for day tickets and a broader choice of products.
Buy before the payment boundary
For the Metro and Suomenlinna ferry, complete the purchase before entering the platform or pier payment area. On a bus, tram or commuter train, follow the reader instructions immediately when boarding. A failed purchase is not a valid ticket.
The island ferry is public transport
The HSL ferry to Suomenlinna leaves from Market Square and takes about 15 minutes. It is not a separate sightseeing ticket. An HSL day ticket that includes zone A can carry you there and continue across the rest of the network.
