The euro banknote theme is imagined European architecture rather than real monuments: windows and gateways move from classical to modern styles, while bridges on the reverse suggest connection. Cash by Country artwork is an original, simplified interpretation and is not legal tender.

One design, eight sizes

A coin chosen by the public

Eesti Pank ran a design competition in 2004. A jury reduced 134 proposals to ten finalists, then a public telephone vote selected Lembit Lohmus's map design. The result is less like a souvenir and more like a tiny national signature.

Old kroons still have a door home

If an old Estonian kroon appears in a drawer, it has not become worthless. Eesti Pank exchanges kroon banknotes and coins for euros without a time limit, service fee or quantity limit, using the fixed conversion rate of EUR 1 = EEK 15.6466.
