Cyprus Public Transport introduced its current ticket policy on 3 August 2026. Visitors can still pay cash on board, but the network prices that convenience differently from a topped-up Motion card.

The night bus has its own price
The current urban night fare, between 21:00 and 04:00, is EUR 4.70 in cash or EUR 3.50 with a Motion card. A late arrival therefore changes the calculation: one cash ride may still be easiest, while repeated night travel makes the card more attractive.
The EUR 5 card cost needs a reason
Anonymous and personalised plastic Motion cards currently cost EUR 5 to issue. For a single ride, cash may be cheaper overall despite the higher fare. For several journeys, transfers or a pass, compare the full trip pattern before choosing.
Top up and validate are separate actions
Putting money into the e-wallet prepares the card; presenting it correctly records the journey. Keep the card available for inspection and watch the validator for confirmation instead of assuming the balance alone is a ticket.
